Our beliefs
what we beleive
Our life together is shaped by historic Christian faith centered on the life, death, resurrection, and reign of Jesus Christ. Below are some of our core convictions and areas where students often have questions. We welcome conversation and honest dialogue.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
We trust and follow Jesus as savior and kingdom exemplar. Jesus Christ is the center of our faith and the model for our lives. Through his life, death, and resurrection, he has defeated sin and death and established a kingdom of justice, mercy, and love.
The Trinity represents eternal self-giving relationship. God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — exists in perfect community and invites us into that same love. This love is the foundation of all that we do and who we are as a church.
Scripture is divinely inspired and points toward Jesus throughout human history. We believe the Bible is God's living Word, authoritative for faith and life, and we read it together as a community seeking to be shaped by its truth.
Every person bears infinite value as God's image-bearers called to tend creation. We believe that God created all things good and has entrusted humanity with the care of the earth and one another.
Humans chose autonomy over relationship; sin scrambled all of creation. We acknowledge that the world is not as it should be — that sin has distorted our relationships with God, with each other, and with the created world.
Grace alone through Jesus' cross and resurrection defeats sin's power. We are saved not by our own efforts but by God's gracious gift. Through faith in Christ, we are made new and empowered to live as agents of restoration.
Our cultural moment
We live in a time of significant cultural questions. Below are some areas where we seek to be thoughtful and faithful as a community.
We practice baptism as a sign and seal of God's covenant promises. Baptism marks the beginning of a life lived in response to God's grace, and we welcome both infant and adult baptism as expressions of faith within the community.
We affirm women in all roles of ministry and leadership. We believe that God calls and gifts women and men equally for service in the church, and we celebrate the full participation of women in teaching, preaching, and pastoral leadership.
We hold to a traditional Christian ethic of sexuality while welcoming all people into our community with love and dignity. We believe honest, respectful dialogue is essential, and we are committed to walking alongside every person in their journey of faith.
